The Central Texas Dispute Resolution Center (CTDRC or DRC) has received a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation. Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than 20 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest Charitably-funded bar foundation. This grant totaling $12,000 will be used for training expenses.
The DRC is a 501(C) (3) non-profit organization providing mediation services and training to the underserved and unserved in Hays, Comal, Guadalupe and Caldwell Counties. Its mission is to help peacefully resolve conflicts in the community. The DRC was established in 2010 and initially offered services to Hays County as the Hays County Dispute Resolution Center. Over time, the demand and need for dispute resolution services increased compelling transition into the Central Texas Dispute Resolution Center.
Mediators with the DRC are professionals, retired professionals or practicing attorneys in the state of Texas. All are volunteers and all non-attorneys are credentialed through the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association. The following cases are mediated:
Community disputes – These cases are often referred to the DRC by law enforcement officers and other county and municipal officials. Examples of these casas are barking dogs, neighborhood nuisances and incompatible land use.
Civil Cases – Many of these cases have already been filed in the courts (Justice of the Peace, District Courts or County Courts at Law). However, the DRC often mediate cases that have not been filed in the court system.
Family, Divorce and Child Custody – Family cases involving child custody, visitation, child support, divorce, property distribution and modification of divorce decrees fall in this category. The DRC will also mediate family and elder disputes.
The DRC is always looking for volunteers who are interested in mediating or have unique skills that are very critical to the operation and success of its mission. Please contact the DRC at 512-878-0382 for additional information.
