Alleged cock fighting has lead to the removal of about 118 fowls from a residence in Buda.
According to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, the animal control unit was dispatched to a residence off of Rolling Hills Drive in Buda on Nov. 4 following a report of cruelty to animals. Officials said further investigation showed that alleged cock fighting may have been occurring. After the case was turned over to the criminal investigations division and a search warrant was executed on Nov. 22, the 118 fowl were taken to the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter.
A post from the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter’s Facebook page on Nov. 19 asked for donations of kennels, chicken feed and disposable trays or pans to help with the influx of chickens and roosters.
On Nov. 22, the animal shelter said in a Facebook post that, “Over 100 roosters are on their way to rescue! HUGE thank you to Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation in Kendalia for stepping up and taking these guys. We’re sure they will be getting a lot of love in the very near future!”
According to the Sheriff’s Office, no arrests have been made in the case.
