The City of San Marcos’ Risk Management Team was recognized by the Texas Public Risk Management Association at its annual conference on Nov. 11
The city’s risk management team received the Texas Public Risk Management Association Achievement Award, which lauded the city’s “robust safety, security, and emergency response program.” The city’s interdepartmental security team is comprised of an assistant police chief, assistant fire chief, police commander, IT staff members, emergency management coordinator and director of general services and the risk manager.
“We want to give our employees peace of mind while at work.” Risk Manager Cindy Conyers said in a statement. “Our Security Team has been a powerful force for identifying and addressing security needs within the city. I couldn’t be more thrilled to see our hard work acknowledged and celebrated.”
According to a city press release, several improvements to employee safety and training have been enabled, which includes creating employee access badges, installing additional security cameras, adding additional panic buttons and offering classes such as Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training, Stop the Bleed, Emergency Response and First Aid & CPR/AED training.
The award also recognized the city’s response program, which ensures staff preparedness for emergency situations.
