With the holiday season at hand, The Salvation Army has made it easier to volunteer with its Register to Ring management program.
The Salvation Army’s Register to Ring will make it effortless for individuals and groups to sign up to support the Red Kettle Campaign and volunteer as bell ringers.
“Register to Ring provides a simple, online sign-up option where volunteers can select the specific date, time and location they would like to ring,” said Kathy McNiel, director of the San Marcos Service Center. “Our goal is to man as many red kettles as possible with volunteer ringers, rather than having to pay people to ring. Bell ringing can be a lot of fun and has become a Christmas tradition for many families and groups. I encourage every-one to visit RegistertoRing.com today and sign up to be a bell ringer.”
The Red Kettle Campaign is the major fundraising event of the year for The Salvation Army with all proceeds supporting programs and emergency assistance for those in need in Hays County.
The campaign began in 1891 in San Francisco and was one of the first fundraisers of its kind in the United States.
The Salvation Army’s bell-ringing season begins in November and stretches through Christmas Eve. Volunteers can help provide a family with groceries or shelter for a night by bell ringing.
“If you have never volunteered with The Salvation Army before, come and give it a try,” McNiel said in a statement. “You can volunteer for an hour or for the entire day. Be part of something special by helping make a difference in the lives of so many this holiday season, and all year round.”
