The meals were prepared for soldiers from Army National Guard Unit 4-133rd Field Artillery who were making a return trip to Fort Bliss in El Paso. The soldiers were heading to be deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq.

San Marcos VFW Post 3413 hosted a letter writing campaign for our local Soldiers that will deploy for 9 months. These letters by Girl Scouts Troops in the surrounding area, showed our community support and were added to the sack lunches on the day of their send off.
