Mason Moreno surpasses the century mark in wrestling wins

Entering the Russ Pederson Invitational tournament last weekend, senior captain Mason Moreno knew he had a shot at the 100 wins mark. As a four-year letterman, Mason needed to average over 25 wins each season to have a shot. He entered the tournament with 99 wins and won his first match with an emphatic first-round pin to hit the 100 milestone.

The next round was a come-from-behind win over last year's regional runner up, which put him at 101. In the semifinals, he drew a former state champion, losing in the first period. Bouncing back from that loss, Mason dominated his consolation semifinal matchup, winning 15-0 to climb to 102 wins.

Rounding out the tournament, he picked up another win to place third and move the mark to 103 wins with more than half of the season to go.  He is inching ever closer to the 107 career wins mark set by former San Marcos wrestler Serenity Villalobos.
