The Hays County Auditor’s Office has received a Certificate of Achievement for financial transparency in its Comprehensive Annual Finance Report by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
This is the fifth consecutive year the county auditor’s office has received the accolade. The GFOA also applauded Hays County Auditor Marisol Villarreal-Alonzo for leading the office’s transparency efforts.
“I am so proud of our Auditor’s Office and the work they do on a daily basis,” Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said. “They work hard to make sure the County spends our taxpayers’ money appropriately and with full transparency. The staff fully deserve the award bestowed upon them.”
The GFOA hands the award out based on an impartial panel review. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. According to the GFOA, receiving the honor represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report must demonstrate a “spirit of full disclosure” to properly communicate the organization’s financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
