KZSM – Celebrating three years

When KZSM launched our continuous live internet broadcast on Jan. 2, 2017, we began with lots of enthusiasm, high hopes and only a vague idea of how to get where we wanted to be. The ultimate goals were to broadcast over the airwaves and to serve our community. Three years later, we still envision the possibility of being able to have folks tune in on their radios as well as being able to tune in via the internet. We have since made many friends and have been supported by our friends, neighbors, family members and our listeners at large to continue providing a venue for expression of local news, views, events, and of course, our diverse musical flavors that make us uniquely San Marcos.

As we venture into our fourth year as your true community radio station, we invite everyone to come and raise a glass with us at the Railyard on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Come to meet your community radio family and find out how you can join this diverse group of radio personalities. There is no obligation to host your own program as there are plenty of other areas where volunteer help is needed.

We continue to host our Kissing Alley concert series and are looking forward to hosting such local musical luminaries as Nate Guthrie and Ike Eichenberg to begin the year. Our concerts are brought to you with the assistance of San Marcos Main Street and the Third Thursday committee.

Please note that our program schedule changes periodically as we train new radio hosts and others leave. Our new complete program schedule can be found on our website or posted in our window at the studio. A schedule of our live programs only is available with this column.

Support for your true community radio station is always welcome. We are a self-supporting non-profit association staffed entirely by volunteers. Volunteers of all ages, abilities, talents, and skills are always welcome and needed. If you would like to support us but don’t have the time to volunteer, monetary donations are just as important. We pay rent, utilities and have expenses as any other business would. We have been fortunate to have a community that supports us and are thankful for your participation. After all, this is your true community internet broadcast station.

KZSM (Just a little bit south of weird!) now streaming world-wide on the internet at KZSM.org.
