The Daily Record received a first place award for general excellence from the Texas Press Association on Saturday.
The Daily Record earned the honor in Division 3 of the TPA Better Newspaper Contest for its Sunday, July 21, 2019 issue, which commemorated the one year anniversary of the Iconic Village Fire.
"Everything about this edition was clean," the judges said. "The writing, the use of color, the photo use all worked together nicely."
"I'm very proud of our team effort," Publisher Lance Winter said. "We work hard to consistently publish a newspaper that the people of San Marcos and Hays County can be proud of."
The Daily Record also placed in several categories in the Better Newspaper Contest.
Former staff reporter Robin Blackburn earned a second-place award in headline writing.
Managing Editor Nick Castillo and Sports Editor Drew King took second place in sports coverage.
Features Editor Rachel Sonnier and Winter received second place in features writing.
Winter and photo correspondent Gerald Castillo placed third in sports photography.
The Daily Record placed fourth in the overall Sweepstakes award.
