Hays County property taxes due soon

Hays County property taxes due soon

Hays County property taxes are due in full by Friday, Jan. 31 to avoid penalties and interest.

Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Jenifer O’Kane said there are a variety of payment options available.

“If you wait until the 31st, chances are you will find yourself in a crowd,” O’Kane said in a statement.

Checks can be dropped off in person or in a drop box at any of the Tax Assessor-Collector’s locations — Hays County Government Center and all four precinct offices. Taxpayers can also pay online by using credit, debit or e-check options. Online vendor fees apply. Property taxes can be paid by mail at 712 South Stagecoach Trail, Suite 1120, San Marcos, TX 78666. Mail-in payments, however, are not accepted at precinct offices.  Mail-in payments are credited as of the postmark date. Taxes may also be paid by phone at 1-888-546-4337 — credit and debit card vendor fees apply.

A 7% penalty and interest will be added to property accounts with outstanding balances beginning on Saturday, Feb. 1. The Hays County Tax Assessor’s Office encourages taxpayers who are not able to pay the full amount by Jan. 31 to pay as much as possible in order to accrue as little as possible.

Taxpayers who pay quarterly and have 65-or-older, disabled person or disable veteran tax exemptions and have made their first payment on or before Jan. 31 will not be assessed penalty and interest.
