Hays County is seeking to ensure all citizens are counted in this year’s census.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 25-30% of Hays County’s estimated population of 222,000 live in hard-to-count neighborhoods, including rural areas, student housing, areas populated by renters and non-English speaking residents, as well as the homeless population. The county established a Complete Count Committee dedicated to reaching these difficult-to-count populations.
On Tuesday, the Hays County Commissioners Court issued a proclamation recognizing the 2020 U.S. Census effort and introduced new part-time Census Coordinator, Jessica Mejia, who will assist in helping the county’s CCC ensure all persons living in Hays County are counted.
