The City of San Marcos’ Construction Project Manager Jason Pence was fired on Jan. 27, the city confirmed Wednesday.
Pence’s firing follows a December story by Community Impact that reported that the city circumvented the legally required competitive bidding process by using change orders.
According to the report, the city awarded The Fence Lady — a Boerne-based construction company — $3.2 million in contracts from Jan. 2013-Feb. 2019, however, the company’s revenue increased by $922,309 through change orders approved by the city.
Pence was in charge of the city’s construction projects, and approving change orders related to city construction projects.
Pence is currently under investigation by the Texas Rangers, according to the report.
The city did not comment further on Pence’s termination.
