San Marcos High School students place in SkillsUSA cosmetology contest

San Marcos High School students participated in the SkillsUSA cosmetology contest on Saturday. SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events which showcase the best career and technical education students in the country. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.

Danielle Machado placed 1st in the Cosmetology Skills contest and received a 1st-place ribbon for her project in Woman's Day/Evening Hairstyle.

Narai Mejia placed 2nd in the Esthetics Skills contest and received a 1st place ribbon for her project in Woman's Day/Evening Hairstyle.

Machado holds two mannequin heads. She was awarded a 1st place ribbbon for her project in Woman's Day/Evening Hairstyle and a 1st place in the Cosmetology Skills contest.

Shelly Backus placed 3rd in the Nail Care Skills contest and received a 1st place ribbon for her project in Flat Nail Art.

Renzo Martinez received a 1st-place ribbon for his project in Men's Classic Haircut.

Savannah Mireles received a 1st-place ribbon for her project in braiding in hair extensions.

The students that competed in the skills contest had to submit a resume, take a written test in their content area, go through a job interview and demonstrate skills in their contest area.
