KZSM proudly features programming you won’t hear anywhere else. On Thursdays from 10 p.m. to midnight, you can tune in to Metal Mark Live to meet Metal Mark Moniz, the Godson of heavy metal. Mark provides an outlet for the local rock and roll and heavy metal scene. “I'm resurrecting music that has never reached any commercial air play,” he says. “These old songs need to be heard before they slip away in history.”
Mark expands his celebration of heavy metal beyond his show by hosting live heavy metal concerts, often as fund raisers for KZSM. This Friday, March 13, he will be broadcasting live from Ragnar’s on the Compound, 6900 Ranch Road 12, featuring the Megadeth tribute band Rest in Peace and the Iron Maiden tribute band Seventh Son. As a preview, Rest in Peace will do a live acoustic set on Mark’s Thursday night show.
Mark has been broadcasting on KZSM.org since our beginning in 2017. His years of experience reflect both his passion for heavy metal music and his commitment to community radio—a forum for sounds, voices, and ideas that would otherwise remain unheard.
Whether it’s some kind of music or any of a wide range of topics from books to wrestling, our KZSM radio hosts share Mark’s devotion for their subjects and his commitment to community radio. If you have a passion and a desire to share it, there’s room for you in our radio family. If you don’t feel ready to host your own show, you can also support us in many other ways. Or you or your business can underwrite one of our shows, as Ragnar’s on the Compound underwrites Metal Mark Live. Contact [email protected].
Check the schedule below for our other live broadcasts. The schedule printed with this column is a listing of live programs only--the complete quarterly schedule can be found on our website KZSM. org. If your favorite programs are broadcast at a time that isn’t convenient for you, check the online schedule to see when they will be re-broadcast.
In addition to our broadcasts, KZSM serves the San Marcos by sponsoring the Kissing Alley concert series in conjunction with Eyes on San Marcos. Our next concert, on March 19, will feature one of our wonderful local musicians, Moira Thomas Jazz.
