A San Marcos council seat is up for grabs in a special election on May 2 after Councilmember Joca Marquez resigned earlier this week.
The race for Place 5 will be held in conjunction with the elections for local school boards. Applications can be filed starting March 18 at 8 a.m. until March 23 at 5 p.m. Candidate packets are already available at the City Clerkâs office at 630 E Hopkins St.
Marquez resigned because of her employment opportunities taking her outside the City of San Marcos, she said in a letter.
Vice Chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Mark Gleason has announced his intention to run for Place 5. Alyssa Garza, a research and evaluation specialist at the Texas School Safety Center, announced her candidacy on Facebook. No other candidates have announced candidacy at this time.
Early voting for the May 2 special election begins April 20 and runs through April 28. Hays County voters can vote at any of the 13 locations available during early voting and on Election Day.
If you are not registered to vote, you must submit your voter registration application by April 2 in order to vote in the special election. Voter registration applications are available at the Hays County Government Center, other county offices, libraries, post offices, Texas Department of Public Safety offices and Texas Department of Human Services.
