As you stay at home, go to KZSM.org on your computer, tablet, or phone to stay connected to San Marcos’ community radio station. We broadcast around the clock to keep you informed, enlightened, and entertained during this unparalleled COVID-19 emergency.
Every weekday at noon, Rob Roark hosts a News Special edition of his regular show We the People. For an hour, he interviews city, county, and school district officials to learn how these entities are responding to the emergency. On some shows, Roark talks with local business owners to assess the impact on their businesses, themselves, and their employees. Our KZSM News Specials also get back to basics with practical suggestions for staying healthy while adapting to staying home. Medical professionals call in with information and advice and listeners are invited to share recipes, including vegan and others.
You’re encouraged to text your questions and comments during these broadcasts.
If you miss the noon special, go to our web site to catch the podcast. Go to KZSM.org, and click the white “expand” arrow in the lower left hand corner of the window; then click on “Podcasts” in the upper right corner of your screen. All of our updates are available under “News Specials.”
Like our listeners, we at KZSM must adapt to the new normal. To accommodate the 11 p.m. curfew, Metal Mark Moniz is broadcasting his live music show from 7-9 a.m. Thursdays instead of 10 p.m. to midnight. Heavy Metal in the morning might wake you up if coffee isn’t available. For live broadcasts like Moniz’s, we’re limiting the number of people in the studio, disinfecting mics and equipment, and keeping distance in the studio.
We’re also setting up remote home broadcasts and phone interviews. Indigenous Freedom Radio hosts Uncle Gene and Marisa recorded a special broadcast while they each remained at home. The show offered an Indigenous perspective on self-care during the pandemic, incorporating excerpts from a recent webinar featuring an Indigenous naturopathic doctor and an Indigenous ethnobotanist. This special will be rebroadcast Wednesday, April 1 at 6 a.m.
