My journey on Mother’s Day always brings thoughts of my own mother. If like me, your mom has passed, call out her name and honor who she was and what she did for you. The love of a Mother is truly God’s gift. This Mother’s Day may all of you know how important you are.
Mothers — single moms, stepmoms, foster moms, surrogate moms, immigrant moms, working moms, stayat-home moms, empty-nest moms, Gold-star moms, moms who leave home to do healthcare. The list of every kind mom can go on and on. But dear readers, no matter what kind of mom you have in your life, may all of us reach out to honor the mothers we meet today. Speak thanks into their day, send a card, buy a flower, cook a meal, make a phone call. And practice mindfulness — for me this means prayer. Pray:
“Sing to God, sing praise to his name, Extol Him who rides on clouds — His name is the Lord — And rejoice before him.A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families — He leads forth the prisoners with singing But the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.” Psalm 68:4-6
