The San Marcos Police Department will host an entrance exam for applicants who are currently licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement as a Peace Officer or who will graduate no later than July 31.
SMPD’s exam is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 and includes a potential $3,000 hiring incentive for those chosen.
“At this time, our department is looking to add at least six qualified and community-oriented officers to our SMPD family,” San Marcos Police Commander Lee Leonard said. “We would love to see a record number of interested candidates respond.”
Officers who are hired during the process will be eligible for a $3,000 hiring incentive with $1,500 at hire and $1,500 upon successful completion of training, SMPD said. An SMPD officer’s annual salary ranges between $57,163 and $64,913, depending on experience.
The deadline to apply is June 3. SMPD said it will likely open testing for all applicants, including non-certified applicants, as soon as August.
