Pat Curtin, age 83, of Round Rock and San Marcos, TX, died peacefully on May 9, 2020 following a brave and courageous battle with Parkinson's.

Pat was born on Nov. 26, 1936, in Munday, Texas, where she attended Munday High School. She was an avid basketball fan and never missed a game. She moved to San Marcos, Texas, in 1965 where she began teaching music in the San Marcos Independent School District. After teaching different subjects and grades, she became principal at Bowie and Crockett Elementary Schools and was a driving force in teaching excellence and innovation in the classroom. She was a role model for many staff and fellow educators both in leadership and visionary methods in education. Pat later took the position of Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum for SMISD.

Pat began working at Southwest Texas State University in the Department of Education at both the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses. She used her time and talents developing relationships with numerous campuses and developing the student teacher program and the Teacher Fellows program.

She found joy in playing the piano and shined while singing during church services.

Pat is survived by her husband of 42 years, Philip James Curtin; her son Don Jones and wife Maria Jones; and by her grandchildren Nikki Jones Dean and Alex Dean of Alexandria, VA., and triplets Kate Jones of Austin, Michael Jones of Round Rock, and Isaac Jones of Round Rock. Pat dearly loved, encouraged and inspired her grandchildren and the family will forever be grateful for her presence, love and light in their lives.

Pat held strong to her faith and found solace in the verse Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” As those close to her know, she was a force to behold. She will be missed dearly.

A Memorial service celebrating her life is on hold pending the restrictions and stipulations surrounding the coronavirus.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Power for Parkinson’s or Texas State Retired Teachers Association.

It is our hope that those who knew Pat will leave a message, memory, or a note that we might share with Phil and future generations. Go to https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/patcurtin.
