The San Marcos Consolidated ISD Board of Trustees will meet Monday for its monthly regular meeting.
The trustees will consider possible changes to the 2020-2021 school year calendar. According to the board's agenda book, planning for the upcoming school year should be grounded in addressing lost instructional time caused by the COVID-19 closure at the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
The board will also consider approval and acceptance of House Bill 3 Board Goals. According to the agenda book, HB3 amends the Texas Education Code to plans that target early childhood literacy and math proficiency and college, career and military readiness. SMCISD staff recommends that the 19-20 school year serve as year one for plan implementation.
The trustees will consider a waiver of required early notice of students at risk of failure. The waiver would allow school districts and charter schools to request a waiver to a Texas Education Code that requires notices to be issued of risk of failure to parents or guardians of students in fourth and seventh grade.
The board will also consider approval of a reading diagnostic waiver in order to use alternative kindergarten and 7th grade reading instruments due to COVID-19.
The trustees will also discuss and take possible action on a board statement regarding racial violence. They will also discuss and take possible action to authorize an equity audit or the hiring of a chief equity officer.
The board will also consider approval of budget amendments and a request for refund of penalties and interest on a 2018 property tax payment.
The trustees will also hold an election for school board officers, which includes president, vice-president and secretary.
In closed session, the board will discuss a safety and security audit, discuss potential personnel appointments and discuss the superintendent’s evaluation. The board will reconvene in open session to take action, if necessary, on items discussed in closed session.
Monday’s meeting will be held both in person at 6 p.m. inside the criminal justice classroom at San Marcos High School, 2601 Rattler Rd., and online at https://www.youtube.com/user/SanMarcosSchools/videos.
