For the other hours of the week, our volunteer program hosts seek out thought-provoking guests for live, phone, or pre-recorded interviews. This Thursday, July 9, 3-5 p.m., Paul Wilson, host of “Philosophy and Popular Music,” will interview Jim Yester, an original and current member of the Association. Yester also played with the Lovin’ Spoonful and the Four Preps, and most memorably sang the lead on the Association’s mammoth hit “Along Comes Mary.” At 80, he still plays with the band. Wilson’s broadcast, “Yester’s Days!” will explore the relationship between music and longevity. Does playing music keep the musician young? How does ag-ing affect performance?
Like Paul Wilson, Radio Host Carole Coburn converses with musicians about the motivation and imagination behind the music. This Friday, July 10, 8-10 p.m. on her show “Friday Night with Care,” Central Texas singer-songwriter Cory Morrow will play his music and talk with her about it. Morrow has played his particular brand of “Red Dirt” music all around the country. The title track of his latest album, “Whiskey & Pride,” features “the ageold struggle of love versus ego.” Morrow also produces and hosts our local festival “Cory Morrow Goes Wheels Up” which debuted last year at the San Marcos airport, featuring local musicians such as Teri Hendrix and Kevin Fowler as well as Bret Michels. Coburn will talk with Morrow about the “Wheels Up” festival, about the challenges facing a working musician in this time of social distancing, and about his plans for meeting those challenges.
