The Hays County Commissioners Court put a burn ban into effect for the next 60 days in response to a particularly dry season.
County Judge Ruben Becerra may remove the burn ban with the recommendation of the fire marshal.
Fire Marshal Gib Watt said there are 14 factors that go into a recommendation for a burn ban including weather predictions, how moisture levels in grass, temperatures, humidity levels, soil temperatures, county-wide fire chief input and resident input.
