San Marcos resident Lisa Marie Coppoletta has announced that she has filed to run for City Council Place 4.

Coppoletta, who previously served on the city’s art commission and neighborhood commission, has been involved in the city for 30 years. Coppoletta received her bachelor’s and master’s in communication studies from then-Southwest Texas State University. In a press release, Coppoletta said she’s running because "the citizens of San Marcos deserve elected officials which focus on the 'nuts and bolts' of flood recovery and the new challenges of the COVID-19 virus."

“Our residents worked very hard on the Land Development Code and its roll out and constant changes during the pandemic are highly concerning to many residents in our community.”

She also cited concerns of the city’s response to COVID-19 as a reason she’s running for office.

“This lack of due diligence has resulted in reactive vs. proactive public policy measures,” Coppoletta said. “Take for instance the police presence downtown on Saint Patrick's day shutting down bar owners, ironic from a council which recently passed cite-and-release.”

Coppoletta will currently face off against incumbent Mark Rockeymoore and Shane Scott. Coppoletta ran for City Council Place 2 in 2019 but lost to incumbent Saul Gonzales.
