2 planes crash trying to land at San Marcos Regional Airport

Two planes crashed while attempting to land at the San Marcos Regional Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a crash involving two light aircraft at approximately 7:18 p.m. Thursday, said DPS Sgt. Deon Cockrell. The FAA reported two single-engine airplanes — a Team Rockets F1 Experimental aircraft with one person aboard and a Cessna 172 carrying two people  — collided while attempting to land. DPS added that the crash caused one aircraft to flip and the other to catch fire and became fully engulfed.

DPS stated that two men were taken to a local hospital for injuries which were described as serious but non-life-threatening, while one was unharmed.
