Former SMHS coach arrested for improper relationship

A former San Marcos High School coach accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student turned himself in to Travis County authorities Friday afternoon.

On Feb. 15, Judge Jo Anne Prado issued a warrant for Ian Michael Madden, 27, for an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student, a second-degree felony. According to a press release from the city, a San Marcos police officer was dispatched to San Marcos High School on Jan. 24 at approximately 6:25 p.m. The athletic director and assistant principal notified the officer that two students had told a coach about an inappropriate relationship between Madden, a history/government teacher and boys basketball coach, and a 17-year-old female student.

Once the school district was notified, SMCISD began an investigation and contacted SMPD, the press release says.
