We at KZSM.org, your true community radio station, fulfill our mission to educate, engage, enlighten, and entertain our listeners with a range of programming that expresses the diversity and creativity of our San Marcos community. Even through the pandemic, our program hosts obtain noteworthy guests for live interviews. This week:
On “Bookmarked,” Tuesday 4-5 p.m., I will talk with Susan Wittig Albert, best-selling author of the China Bayles mystery series. These adventures take place in Pecan Springs, a fictitious Texas Hill country town the feels a lot like San Marcos. As Albert explains, “China wants the things that many contemporary women seek: a quieter life, rewarding work, a close relationship, friends, and community.” China owns an herb shop, and each of the twenty-seven mysteries features a different plant and includes information and recipes. Recently, Albert has expanded her scope with two linked mystery novella trilogies featuring other Pecan Springs characters.
On Tuesday’s broadcast, Albert will preview “Hemlock,” her forthcoming China Bayles mystery, and talk about her next Pecan Springs trilogy. We will also discuss the effects of the pandemic on reading, writing, and publishing. Do readers make different choices in times of stress and confinement, for instance? As the author of non-fiction, novels, and two other mystery series, Albert will draw on her extensive experience of the publishing industry to describe their response to the pandemic.
