Buda appoints new assistant city manager
Following a nationwide search, Buda City Manager, Micah Grau, has appointed Lindsey N. Baker, MPA, as assistant city manager. Baker will assume her duties on July 17, and will oversee the Communications, Parks and Recreation, Destination Services, Library, and Information Technology departments, and legislative affairs.

Wildfire brought under control, as conditions worsen
This past weekend in San Marcos, a wildfire off of Hilliard Road burned an area of approximately 50 acres. There were no structural losses or loss of life reported, but the wildfire is just one indication of an environment under stress by weeks of excessive heat.

Court to discuss winter storm cleanup, jail improvements
The Hays County Commissioners Court is set to possibly approve the funding of improvements at the Hays County Jail, possibly approve the payment of $250,000 of county funds for debris removal and cleanup from Winter Storm Mara and possibly executive agreements for La Cima Improvement Districts at the regularly scheduled meeting today.

Fire investigators point to mattress as cause
San Marcos police and fire investigators said the combustible material that caused a fire that killed five, seriously injured others and displaced more than 200 residents of the Iconic Village apartment complex in San Marcos in July 2018–the deadliest in the city’s history–was a discarded mattress.

Martindale parade honors Fourth of July
The city of Martindale has celebrated Independence Day with a parade since 1994. On hand to offer its cooperation, Gary Job Corps Correction/Security Cadets have assisted with traffic and crowd control for over 20 years. Over 40 floats, food booths, music and fellowship welcomed residents and visitors to the city.
