House approves bills to spend up to $1 billion to buy more state parkland
The Texas House on Tuesday gave final approval to two bills, Senate Bill 1648 and Senate Joint Resolution 74, that would, with voter approval, create a Centennial Parks Conservation Fund to invest $1 billion to buy more land for the state parks system.

Abbott threatens to veto pared-down school choice bill, warns of special sessions
Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday said he would veto a toned-down version of a bill to offer school vouchers in Texas, and threatened to call legislators back for special sessions if they don't 'expand the scope of school choice' this month.

City proclaims National Preservation Month
San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson made a proclamation fitting for a city covered with historical buildings and rich with history. The month of may was deemed Historic Preservation Month. “Thank you all for what you do to contribute to the history, culture and beautification of our town,” Hughson said.

A national mobile exhibit honoring veterans will make its inaugural stop in San Marcos on Thursday, May 18. The Wreaths Across America Mobile Education Exhibit will be on display at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3413, 1701 Hunter Road, from noon to 6 p.m.
