JONELL EASTER- LING - MamMaw - 89, of Manchaca, Texas passed away on April 22, 2021, at her home in Onion Creek Meadows, Manchaca. Jonell was born in Idabel, Oklahoma to Carl and Minnie May Staley on October 18, 1931, the 7th of 8. She graduated Idabel High School, then went on to be a telephone operator for 28 years for multiple companies, ending in San Marcos for Southwestern Bell. She continued her career with White Swan Food Distribution for an other 22 years, and lived in Onion Creek Meadows for 47 years.

April is both Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness month. The following article is the second article of a four-week series focusing on raising awareness about sexual assault and child abuse. 2 in 5 women and 1 in 5 men will experience a form of sexual abuse/assault in their lifetime and 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. Last year HCWC provided services to 693 victims of sexual assault and responded to area hospitals 1l2 times for Hospital Emergency Advocate Response Team calls.

Reporting shines light on fatal wreck, SMPD's response
Illuminating reporting by Stephanie Gates in the Daily Record this week powerfully shined a disturbing light on San Marcos Police Department leadership –– the sergeant who retained his job after a fatal wreck in June, whereby Lockhart police recommended charges of Criminal Negligent Homicide after finding an unfinished Dos XX in his cupholder, but also our new police chief, who only a few weeks ago bothered to inform City Council about this dire and shameful event.
