Motive unclear in deadly shooting at Texas cabinet business
BRYAN (AP) — Police in Texas were still seeking a motive Friday for what led an employee at a cabinet-making company to open fire on his co-workers, leaving one man dead and wounding five others before shooting and wounding a state trooper during a search for the suspect.

US jobless claims up to 744K as virus still forces layoffs
WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits rose last week to 744,000, signaling that many employers are still cutting jobs even as more people are vaccinated against COVID-19, consumers gain confidence and the government distributes aid throughout the economy.

Planet Earth focus of inspired new gallery show
A call to honor the planet in support of earth day has produced a vibrant, smart, and varied look at earth through 69 works of art by 42 area artists in a new gallery show hanging now through May 22 at the Price Center in downtown San Marcos. Most of the artwork is available to purchase and a portion of any proceeds benefits the nonprofit Price Center’s ongoing community arts efforts.

Glen Frederick Burton
Glen Frederick Burton passed away at age 66 on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 in San Marcos Texas. He was born on December 6, 1954 in Houston Texas. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was a father figure to many and a devoted friend to his closest circle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and the occasional chili cookoff. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Marilyn Burton, and his parents-in-law, Sam and Betty Lawson. He is survived by the love of his life, Lani Burton, and his son and daughter who he was very proud of, Todd Burton of Plano, Texas and Shevaun Wood of Fredericksburg, Texas; grandchildren Jake and Samantha Wood and Ellis Burton; sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and John Troutman of San Antonio, Texas; brother Bruce Burton of Temple, Texas and sister-in-law and husband, Tia and Wyatt Caddel of Liberty Hill, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
