EXPLORING NATURE: POPULAR BIRDS
What is the most popular bird in the Unites States? Well, the bald eagle is a strong candidate for that honor – after all, it is our national bird. It is definitely an imposing specimen and builds an imposing nest. One nest in Florida was 20 feet deep and 9.5 feet wide and weighed almost three tons. Wow.

A Word About Recycling with Ollie Maier
Last week we referenced an article from Resource Recycling that spoke of how the recycling programs in three cities were coping with the virus. We covered a large one (New York) and a small one (Fort Collins, Colorado), but didn’t get to the medium one (our Austin, Texas). We also didn’t get to another article mentioning how it was affecting another Texas city, Temple.

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES: LABOR DAY
From my journey, I will pay honor to the Labor Movement and the contributions its workers have given to the making of America. I associate labor with workers and getting physically tired. Recently on my way to Redwood, I passed by a bridge construction site where I observed men hard at work. It was very hot, and I recalled that I also did bridge construction work, tying rebar throughout my college years. Right off the farm, I entered the work force essentially unskilled and was happy to have the job.

Ms. Toribia Reyna
Ms. Toribia Reyna, age 76, of San Marcos, Texas, has passed away peacefully while residing at Cypress Hill Nursing Home on August 30, 2020 at 7:00 pm, with her daughters by her side. Due to the pandemic, it was several months no one could enter the nursing home to visit, causing the process to go faster. Thankfully, her daughter Patsy works at the nursing home and provided loving visits. She battled several ailments and the onset of dementia that brought her back and forth to remember us, but even so she knew in her heart how much we love her! Toribia is survived by her daughters, Angie Longoria, Julie Arocho Rodriguez (Albert), and Patsy Reyna (Estella); grandchildren, Robert Longoria, Jackie Crayton, Katrina Arocho-Gutierrez, Isaac Rodriguez, Abigail Rodriguez, Brianna Rodriguez, Carissa Rodriguez, Dennis Crayton Jr, Niomi Crayton, Keyshia Crayton, Brittany Crayton; and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Santiago Reyna, David Reyna, and Valentin Reyna (Mary), and her brother’s children. Toribia left us to join her parents, Antonio and Maria Reyna, brothers Martin Reyna, Johnny Reyna, Joe Reyna, and Ester Reyna; great-grandchild, Isaiah Mondragon, in heavenly paradise. She loved to get along with everyone and she loved caring for her flowers and plants. She loved talking to her children, playing bingo, watching her wrestling shows, and spending time with her family and close relatives. We will never forget the many beautiful smiles and hugs and will carry on her memories forever and ever until we meet again. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, there will not be a service. Condolences may be sent to the family online at Legends funeral home, San Marcos, Texas. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Toribia Reyna, please visit our floral store.
