Comp Plan public outreach survey available Feb. 2
The VisionSMTX Comprehensive Plan rollout was not without controversy. The focus of public comment centered around the feeling of being left out of the planning process as compared to the previous comprehensive plan — Vision San Marcos - A River Runs Through Us. With that in mind, the council provided feedback to city staff, at a previous meeting, that more public outreach should occur before taking action.

ECONOMIST: People and Places in Texas
New population estimates have been released, and once again Texas gained far more residents than any other state. The US population increased by a little more than 1.6 million people during the 12 months ending in July 2023. That’s a rise of just 0.5%, but it’s better than the 0.4% increase in 2022 or 2021’s 0.2% gain. Migration was up, and there was a drop in deaths (though they remain well above pre-COVID levels).

Court proclaims Jan. International Crime Stoppers Month
Good old fashioned police work and forensics are a tried and true means of solving a crime. However, sometimes those tactics aren’t enough to do so. Law enforcement often needs help from the community to identify suspects and get to the heart of what really happened. Crime Stoppers is a way for people to provide tips without interacting with law enforcement. And if the tip is unique and leads to an arrest, it could also lead to a cash payment — giving all the more incentive to provide good information.

Property tax statements out, overpayment will be refunded
