DEAR ABBY: I’m a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for more than 12 years. My road to sobriety has been long and dark, but I am proud of turning my life around and staying sober. Court reviews jail inmate data, outsource costs
Hays County Commissioners Court held one of its shorter regularly scheduled meetings Tuesday, adjourning for executive session after only an hour and a half. It was still long enough, though, for commissioners to look at current statistics for the Hays County Jail and to extensively consider what to do about a unique employee benefit concern.

Empower Texans with dollars for conserving energy
By this point in the summer, Texans know the drill. Sometime before dusk we’re likely to get a notice from our utility providers politely asking us to reduce energy usage, usually between the hours of 6-9 p.m. when solar power wanes. We grumble to ourselves for a minute, then dutifully shut off the dishwasher and laundry machine, turn off any unnecessary lights and raise our thermostats a few degrees. In the past two weeks alone, we’ve been asked to do this eight different times. We’re guessing only a few goody-goodies out there have done so every single time.

Home’s history is linked to lawsuit
