Let's go ride a bike
I have been part of fitness, running and exercise as long as I can remember. At a younger age it was called “playing,” even when it meant running or riding a bike in a race around the block. Games were almost always associated with running or throwing or climbing something. There were not many of the group that were considered overweight. We were always moving to burn off extra calories. 05/14/2023 05:00 AM

Exploring Nature: Fond Memories
Don’t get me wrong, I’m basically a happy camper, very content with life, but sometimes I do look back wistfully and think about some things that are now gone. 05/14/2023 05:00 AM

Legislation to end countywide centers?
Legislation to end countywide centers?
Since 2019, Hays County voters have enjoyed the benefit of countywide vote centers, making it possible for them to vote on Election Day at locations convenient for them, the same way they do during early voting periods. This means they can vote closer to where they work or where they drop their kids off for school. This has served Hays County well, as we experience explosive growth in both voter registration and voter turnout in high-profile elections. 05/14/2023 05:00 AM

Re-imagining The Heritage Association of San Marcos
Veramendi Plaza Park is a stunning gem that provides a tree-covered park on the river to be enjoyed by all visitors. Although the city owns the park, the Heritage Association members have been stewards of the property, structures and buildings for over four decades. To know the story of Veramendia Plaza Park is to understand the driving forces behind this nonprofit and the extent of their financial support endorsing preservation. Here are some pivotal dates to know: 1972 — Preservation efforts were dedicated to Veramendi Park when the Federal Urban Renewal Agency transferred this undeveloped area to the City Bicentennial Commission which soon became the Heritage Association. Thus began the drive to protect and preserve these three acres as the historic centerpiece of the town. 05/14/2023 05:00 AM
Jane Austen comes to Wimberley Players
Jane Austen comes to Wimberley Players
Kate Hamill’s delightfully funny and quick-paced adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel, “Sense and Sensibility,” follows the Dashwood sisters as they are forced to live amongst their meddling relations while navigating through the harsh truths of class distinctions. To the fiendish delight of Ms. Hamill’s cleverly written “Greek Chorus” of Gossips, the sensible and reserved Elinor and her ever romantic and emotional younger sister Marianne find themselves desperately in love with men above their station. Austen fans will not be disappointed in this beautifully staged and costumed production set against the backdrop of Regency era England and coupled with Austen’s always subtly subversive ironic language. 05/14/2023 05:00 AM
