It‘s Leo Season; you‘re welcome

Sunday, August 6, 2023

Happy Birthday to ME! And Happy Birthday to all of my fellow Leos out there. It’s Leo Season, baby! Leos are taking up all the space this month, ain’t we?

On Monday, Aug. 7, I am celebrating my 45 roar-volution around the sun, and I’m happy to celebrate all month long.

Have you noticed how Leos are completely unapologetic about announcing our earthside anniversaries? There’s a former student of mine that I absolutely adore. She’s a successful television news reporter, and she is no stranger to the limelight. Each year throughout August, she has a tradition of posting a daily photo of herself on social media with reminders that it is her birthday month, and I find it absolutely hysterical.

This week, I took a friend on a birthday paddle to celebrate her Aug. 1 birthday, and as we passed river-goers along the way, I announced her as the birthday girl, encouraging everyone to cheer and wish her well. One older fellow, in true Leo fashion, yelled back, “It’s my birthday on Aug. 6! I’ll be 62!” As we exited the river and dragged the kayak into a 45-degree angle to drain all the water out of the hole in my stern, I made sure the men on the bank knew that they should be honoring my friend for her birthday. They each took turns announcing every Leo birthday they were connected to, and cosmically, it turned out that each of their mothers shared the exact same birthdate as myself. Leo power!

Leos are known for their generous nature. We are often willing to share our time, resources and affection with others and enjoy giving back to our communities. Leos will go out of our way to make our loved ones feel special during our birthday month, and we also enjoy being in the spotlight, seeking attention from others. We thrive in situations where we can be acknowledged and ap- preciated, and this is part of the reason why I began organizing a mini-festival in my own name: K Stone Fest. #sorrynotsorry The goal is to bring folks together to enjoy music, comedy, poetry, dancing and other fun activities to raise funds for my PhD pursuits and for reunification with my children in Portugal. Details for this multi-day event will be announced soon.

This month also welcomes a Super Moon and a forthcoming Super Blue Moon. Both of these moons will be closer to earth, allowing us to more closely feel their effects, and all this lunar energy is sure to keep us all glowing through the end of this summer. I’m certainly in need of this celestial boost, and I plan to soak up all the moonbeams I can possibly absorb.

With more opportunities to howl…er…roar this month, I encourage all the Leos out there to keep boasting loudly about the glory of your emergence into the world. Keep planning your own parties and demanding congratulations, because why the heck not? You’ve waited all year for Leo Season to arrive, and everyone should know it’s your time to shine.

For those of you non-Leo readers, I also encourage you to embrace the Leo spirit this month and celebrate your own unique qualities and express yourself confidently. Remember the lessons we are receiving from the Leos and the moons this month: “Don’t be afraid to shine. The world needs your light.”
