San Marcos Food Truck Festival

Food is a binding force; it can comfort and warm; it can help us experience others’ cultures and it is the root of so many gatherings. And when the best food trucks from around the state gather for one mouthwatering event, it can be a cause for celebration.

That’s what this weekend’s first ever San Marcos Food Truck Festival hopes to accomplish, according to organizer for the event,  ATX Food Truck Festivals Founder David Poku.

“Food trucks give people the ability to experience a lot of various cultures through food, without having to buy a plane ticket,” Poku said. “It gives people the ability to come together, celebrate food and at a very cost effective means.”

The San Marcos Food Truck Festival will take place on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 3-7 p.m. at 116 S. Edward Gary St., the empty lot by Railyard Bar & Grill. 

Poku said the Food Truck Festival is a celebration of family, food and fun with something for everyone.

“The great thing about the food truck festival is that it doesn’t really matter who you are — if you have a family or if you’re a college student — there’s something for everyone,” Poku said.

There will be a variety of food trucks with an array of food — from Filipino and barbecue to funnel cakes and street tacos. During the event, attendees will be able to enjoy music, games, drinks, and more. Fry's Fun Farm will be out with a pop up petting zoo and Greater Austin Comic Con will have real life superheroes on hand for photos. There will also be two full bars, provided by Railyard, for those 21 and over, and plenty of local vendors set up at the festival.

There will be an afterparty at Railyard Bar & Grill and admission is included in the ticket price. A percentage of all proceeds go to Heroes for Children, a Texas nonprofit organization that provides social and financial support to Texas families that have a child battling cancer.

Festival organizer and Owner of Railyard Bar & Grill Arash Saberi said the timing seemed right and the city seemed excited. 

“We figured San Marcos needs this, because we were looking around and we didn’t see any food truck festivals yet but the city seemed excited for it,” Saberi said.

General Admission is $6; VIP Entourage for four people is $12 and includes tickets for four adults (21 and over) with a 10% discount on all participating food and nonfood vendors and discounts on the bar; GA Family for four is $10 and includes 2 adult and 2 children (age 12-20) tickets; VIP Couples tickets are $10 and includes VIP admission for two with a 10% discount on all participating food and nonfood vendors and discounts on the bar. Tickets for minors are $5 and kids under the age of 12 are free admission. Tickets can be purchased on eventbrite. Sponsors for this event include Five Star Entourage and the Census 2020.
