Luanne Caraway, the county’s long-serving tax assessor-collector, is retiring at the end of the month and the Comnissioners Court is taking applications to fill her unexpired term which ends Dec. 31, 2020.
Caraway was appointed in May, 1994, and was elected to an unexpired term that November. She has been re-elected since.

Assessors and Collectors, Section 6.231 Continuing Education. The appointed individual must be able to obtain bond for the State of Texas and Hays County pursuant to Texas Tax Code, Title 1 Property Tax Code, Subtitle B. Property Tax Administration, Chapter 6, Subchapter B. Assessors and Collectors, Section 6.28 Bonds for State and County Taxes.
