Police seeking driver of SUV that struck 2

Tuesday, February 12, 2019

San Marcos Police are asking the public to help locate the driver of a maroon-colored four-door Chevrolet Tahoe in the wake of a weekend hit and run that injured two people, one seriously.

It happened at approximately 10:29 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of North LBJ Drive and Hutchison Street. Pedro Ybarra, 54, and his 23-year-old daughter Larissa Ybarra were struck while in the Hutchison Street crosswalk.

Witnesses who described the vehicle for police said it has possible damage to the driver’s side bumper, but were unable to supply a license plate number.

After striking the Ybarras, the vehicle traveled north on LBJ Drive, west on Hutchison Street, south on Guadalupe Street and west on Hopkins — basically circling Courthouse Square — before witnesses lost sight.

“SMPD is requesting any information or witnesses to the incident, specifically any businesses with video of the offender’s vehicle, any body shop who might have been asked to do repairs on a vehicle matching that description with that type of damage, or any person with information about the incident to contact Detective Travis Davidson at 512-753-2315.

The city said both the injured people were taken to Seton Medical Center Hays in Kyle, where Pedro Ybarra was admitted to the intensive care unit with severe head injuries. He may have permanent brain damage, the city’s press release said, noting that he had been placed in a medically-induced coma.

Larissa Ybarra’s injuries were non-incapacitating and she has since been released from the hospital.
