P&Z approves CUP for Hopdoddy’s and three watershed protection plans

Sunday, February 17, 2019

There’s a new burger joint coming to town, and it will be able to serve mixed beverages.

The Planning and Zoning Commission approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for Hopdoddy Burger Bar, which will be located in the Springtown Center, for the sale of mixed beverages for on-premise consumption.

The restaurant is proposed to have 112 indoor seats and 20 outdoor seats located in a 4,000 square-foot indoor area and a 1,050 square-foot patio. Hours of operation are proposed to be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. P&Z Chair Jim Garber proposed an amendment to the CUP -- which passed — that specifies that the business hours will not go any later than 10 p.m. Garber explained that the city has been in situations “where we grant CUPs and then the business model changes and we have problems.”

Hopdoddy is an Austin-based chain with locations in six states, including Arizona, Colorado, California and Florida. There are 18 locations in Texas. Its menu includes a variety of burgers, including vegetarian options, along with sides, appetizers and desserts.

In other business Tuesday, P&Z approved three Qualified Watershed Protection Plans for three developments, including a 13-acre lot in the Blanco Riverwalk Subdivision on the corner of Cotter and Riverway avenues; a 5-acres development in the Stonecreek Crossing subdivision; and a nearly 9-acre development in the International Electric Corporation Addition subdivision located on the northbound access road of Interstate Highway 35. City staff said that there is no proposed development in the International Electric Corporation Addition but there is a restrictive covenant attached to the land requiring water quality protection measures.
