Sunday, January 20, 2019

The San Marcos Police Department will begin its Winter Citizen Police Academy classes on Thursday, Feb. 28, in the auditorium at the San Marcos Police Department, 2300 Interstate 35 South.

It is a 14-week course that offers residents a unique view into how police officers perform their duties.

The instruction is comprehensive, covering different facets of police work. Each block of instruction is presented by law enforcement professionals. Classes meet on Thursday evenings, 6 to 9 p.m. at the SMPD. Classes on the driving track and shooting range are held on Saturdays.

The CPA is free of charge. All materials needed for the course are provided by the SMPD.

The citizen’s police academy is open to all San Marcos residents, business owners and their employees who wish to attend. Eligible persons must be 18 years of age and pass a criminal history check.

Applications are available online. The San Marcos Police Department encourages interested persons to submit their applications as soon as possible, since class size is limited.
