Sunday, April 7, 2019

It may look easy, but handling the swirling skirts of Ballet Folklorica takes a practiced hand. After practicing their dance steps, third graders Makara Diaz and Khloe Patlan have fun swirling the skirts of their performance costumes around them. Daily Record photos by Denise Cathey

Fourth-graders Marley Garcia and Natalie Dominguez wait in the doorway of the music room’s storage closet as their costumes are handed out for fittings during their Wednesday practice at Travis Elementary.

Music Teacher Aaron Mata re-demonstrates for the third graders how they’ll need to move their skirts for the choreography during practice.

The fourth-grade girls gather around in their embroidered skirts and blues as they wait to have their costumes pinned for alterations.

With their costumes pinned in place, the fourth-grade girls excitedly play with their skirts while they wait to practice their choreography for their dance to “Las Chiapanecas.”

Melissa Vallejo sets out the colorful costumes the third-grade girls will wear as she gets ready to start on a round of try-ons and pinnings to get the costumes ready for performances.
