Hays County requests temporary vaccine allocation suspension this week

Tuesday, March 30, 2021

The Hays County Local Health Department requested a temporary COVID-19 vaccine allocation suspension this week.

The county said it asked the Texas Department of State Health Services to suspend allocation of vaccine doses to allow its clinic and partners to catch up on administering doses. The county added that it was unable to hold vaccine clinics during the week of the winter storm in February and to some extent during spring break.

The county’s normal allocation will resume next week, the county said. During each week in March, the Hays County Local Health Department received 4,680 doses of Pfizer vaccines.

Although the local health department didn’t receive any additional vaccine doses this week, Emergency Services Director Mike Jones said during Tuesday’s commissioners court meeting that the county held a clinic at Wimberley First Baptist Church on Tuesday and will also administer doses at that location on Wednesday.

Several providers in Hays County received COVID-19 vaccine doses this week, including three San Marcos locations. H-E-B Pharmacy 243 (641 E. Hopkins St.)  and H-E-B Pharmacy 455 (200 W. Hopkins St.) were each allocated 300 Johnson & Johnson doses. Texas State University Student Health Services was allocated 1,170 Pfizer doses.

According to the DSHS, 54,873 Hays County residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while 29,476 have been fully vaccinated, approximately 16%. The DSHS estimates that Hays County has a population of 183,380 who are 16 years or older.
