KZSM–New Sunday music: From here, everywhere

Sunday, October 8, 2023

We at KZSM are happy to welcome yet another unique addition to our eclectic lineup of music programming. “Sundays Free with JJB” airs Sundays 11 p.m. to Mondays 1 a.m. Host Justin James Bridges, a national touring musician from Texas, features new music, stories from his tours, and conversations with artists and creatives.

In addition to hosting the show, Justin sings, raps, and plays guitar and “a bunch of random instruments” with the American fusion band Muruga Cosmic Boogie, and with Booker & Bridges DaLight, an American Funk-Rock-Blues-Jazz-Hip Hop Fusion Supergroup, along with other groups.

Justin explains how the multiple meanings of his show title, “Sundays Free,” express his interests and experiences as a musician and as a person: “’Sundays Free’ can be interpreted as Sundays are free, as in available, but it also refers to the freedom of the music, freedom of the road, freedom of thought, and the inspiration of being free.”

“Sundays Free” will incorporate both live and recorded music, with plenty of variety. “It doesn't matter the genre, if it's good music I'll give it a shot” Justin declares. “I’m known for crossing genres, so you can always expect a big mix of music.” His playlist will vary geographically as well, including music from artists encountered on his travels, along with 'great local San Marcos acts” that he has discovered right here. The show will also feature guests, who will talk and play live as well.

Om his first show, October 1, he introduced himself, “played some fun music, performed a couple of live songs, and interviewed Harley Robledo from the Reggae group Judivan Roots, who also performed a couple of songs.” His upcoming broadcast will add a new music segment at the end of the show, featuring a song from a new artist and information on where to find their music.

Hosting “Sundays Free” comes naturally to Justin, who ran a station called “Tunes & More Radio” in Portland, Oregon. Bringing his talents to San Marcos is a kind of homecoming for Justin. “I've been in and out of San Marcos throughout my life and I love it here. I love being a San Martian.” His support for the community and the local music scene makes him a natural for KZSM. “I want to help build the music scene and the community because it's San Marvelous.”
