ELECTION INFORMATION
Tuesday, September 12, 2023

The League of Women Voters of Hays County today announced they would be participating in the upcoming National Voter Registration Day–a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to register hundreds of thousands of voters on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

In addition, the League will be out in force throughout this month to register voters and to be available to assist voters who want to register or update their registration if they have moved. According to league officials, Oct. 10 is the deadline to register or update one's registration.

“Every eligible American deserves the chance to participate in this year’s pivotal elections,” said Marilyn Minnaar, Hays LWV president. “Voter registration is the first step to ensuring your voice is heard. We want to make sure every eligible resident in Hays county who wants the opportunity to vote on Election Day is registered by Oct. 10.”

LWV Hays County will be available on Sept. 19 for The Sententia Vera Cultural Hub’s National Voter Registration Day and the 18th Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) Benefit Day, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., 4002 E, Highway 290 at Sunset Canyon Drive, Dripping Springs.

The League has been invited by the Honors College at Texas State University to staff a table outside Lampasas Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sept. 19.

The League will staff a table at the Kyle Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 19.

The League will also staff a voter registration table at the Buda Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 19.

Members of the League will be at the San Marcos Farmers Market every Saturday in September and October.

Expect to find the League working at The Mermaid Festival, San Marcos, on Sept. 23.

National Voter Registration Day has gained momentum since it was first observed in 2012, with more than 5 million voters registered to vote on the holiday to date.

The day is also noteworthy as a game-changing, annual campaign that does register voters in communities and online across the nation.

The day has embraced a host of celebrities, bipartisan elected officials and organizations, which leverages the collective impact of thousands of community partners, including hundreds of League of Women Voters groups, nationwide, every year.

According to U.S. Census data from 2020, as many as 1 in 4 eligible Americans are not registered to vote. Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day efforts are designed to ensure every eligible voter has the opportunity to vote, creating broad awareness of voter registration oppor- tunities to reach tens of thousands of voters who may not register otherwise.

The holiday is endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center).

“The League of Women Voters of Hays County empowers voters through education, registration and get-out-thevote activities in every election,” said Marilyn Minnaar. “We host candidate and issue forums and registration drives while also providing trusted and timely elections information on VOTE411.org. We believe our democracy is strongest when every voice is heard.”

The League also announced two important dates for its upcoming Virtual Forums: Oct. 12, San Marcos City Council, 7 p.m.

Oct. 18, Woodcreek City Council, 7 p.m.
