Man charged with intoxication manslaughter after fiery wreck

Tuesday, November 19, 2019

A fiery wreck led to a Maxwell woman’s death Friday night.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m. on State Highway 80 near Old Bastrop Road, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

An official said a gray Hyundai Genesis, driven by Leonardo Godinez Perez, 25, was headed west on SH 80 when it struck a silver Toyota stopped at a red light, which caused it to spin into oncoming traffic. The Toyota was hit by a black Dodge Ram traveling east. The Ram was then struck by a Ford Focus, DPS said.

South Hays Fire Department responded to the four-car incident, where one caught fire.

The driver of the Toyota, Susie Olvera Salinas, 75 of Maxwell, was transported to Ascension Seton Hays in Kyle, where she was later pronounced dead, DPS said.

DPS arrested Perez for driving while intoxicated first offense, and was later charged with intoxication manslaughter. Perez was transported to the Hays County Jail, where he was booked and released on a $50,000 surety bond for intoxication manslaughter and $5,000 surety bond for DWI.
