Friends, family and lovers of board games can now enjoy a new version of an iconic game, which includes a familiar San Marcos organization.

Top Trumps USA and Hasbro recently released a Texas Hill Country Edition of Monopoly which includes familiar places such as the Guadalupe River, Gruene Hall and the Hays County Food Bank.

Serving as the Mermaid Capital of Texas, the city is represented in the game by the Mermaid Society SMTX logo located on a Community Chest card within the board game.

“You know, I’m really excited about any opportunity that features San Marcos in such a positive way,” said July Moreno, executive director of Mermaid Society SMTX. “All Texans can recognize that we are the Mermaid Capital of Texas.”

Moreno explained that Mermaid Society was first approached to be a part of the game several months ago as the game company sought after unique places and features that make up the Texas Hill Country.

“As a Texan, I’m incredibly excited to present this edition,” said Katie Hubbard, Sales Executive, Top Trumps USA, Inc. “There was so much I didn’t know about my own backyard. I learned so much about the rich history, culture, and natural beauty the Hill Country has to offer. So many families have lived here for generations and their deep roots are evident in the way they show love for their communities and each other. I can’t wait for more people to discover what makes the Hill Country so unique and wonderful, just like I did.”

Not only did Moreno express her excitement regarding the representation of the City of San Marcos but also how the game piece goes along with the purpose of Mermaid Society SMTX.

“What we represent, which is about community, I love the fact that we got the Community Chest card. So that really, it really just kind of brings it home,” Moreno said.

The Texas Hill Country Edition of Monopoly was officially launched on Wednesday, March 2 at the Hoffman Haus in Fredericksburg, TX.

According to a statement by Top Trumps USA, “Texas Hill Country Monopoly is available at local and online retailers, including Fredericksburg General Store, Biedermann’s Ace Hardware,Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Das Peach Haus, J. Forks Designs and The Dienger Trading Co. The game retails for $39.99.”
