Rebecca Minnick has announced her candidacy for Commissioner, Hays County Precinct 3. Minnick is currently serving her third term as Place One Council Member for the city of Wimberley.

She also serves as Mayor Pro Tem; a post she has been elected to by fellow council members for four straight years.

“With the largest unincorporated areas in Hays County, Precinct 3 faces huge challenges protecting our water supply, preserving the natural beauty of this special place and ensuring a sustainable future for our children and grand-children,” she said.

Precinct 3 includes the cities of Wimberley and Woodcreek, and portions of San Marcos, Kyle, Dripping Springs and Driftwood.

After winning her council seat in 2019, Minnick ran unopposed in the 2021 and 2023 election cycles. During her time on council, she has played a leadership role in improving the city’s infrastructure, including implementing the downtown district’s sewer system, expanding parking in the commercial area of the city and building accessible public restrooms to remove the longtime portable restrooms from Wimberley’s Square.

Minnick has earned the Texas Municipal League Leadership Fellow designation and completed numerous trainings in land use, zoning, government transparency and parliamentary procedure.

Prior to being elected to Wimberley’s City Council, Minnick served on the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission and prior to that, the Board of Adjustments. She has also been a longtime member of the Wimberley Community Civic Club and has served on its Board and various committees through the years.

“I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with community members, businesses, nonprofits, stakeholders and other agencies to help solve problems that affect us all,” Minnick said.

Currently a real estate agent, Minnick previous had a long career in communications, public relations and marketing. She focused on employee communications and business development for more than a decade at United Space Alliance, the prime contractor for the U.S space shuttle program. She worked on the crisis communications team that responded to the space shuttle Columbia disaster and its aftermath. Minnick also won awards for contributions to flight safety and for teamwork in risk management programs.

Throughout her career, she has held positions including public information officer for Friendswood School District, account director for advertising and public relations agencies in Houston and Austin, and communications roles at a variety of companies and news organizations.

Minnick and her husband, Don, have owned their property in the city limits of Wimberley for nearly 20 years and have lived here full time for 15 years. She has two sons and a granddaughter who attends Wimberley High School.
