San Marcos attorney announces candidacy for county court judge

Sunday, January 5, 2020

Tony Fusco, a San Marcos resident and local criminal defense attorney, announced his candidacy for Hays County Court at Law No. 3 Judge.

Fusco filed to run in the March 3 Democratic Primary, where he’ll run against Millie Thompson.

Fusco, who’s worked his entire legal career in Hays County after moving to San Marcos in 1992, said he’s running for court at law No. 3 judge because he wants to give back to his community.

“I am running for judge because Hays County is my home and the place I’ve spent my entire legal career,” Fusco told the Daily Record. “I want to serve the citizens of Hays County and contribute to its growth and development in a positive and meaningful way. As a county court at law judge, I will have the opportunity to give back to a community that has been so good to me, and which has allowed me to realize all my dreams.”

Fusco worked his way through college as a surgical technician at Central Texas Medical Center, while also caring for his disable mother, he said in a press release. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and later received his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. Fusco interned with the Hays County District Attorney’s Office during his first summer in law school and began working with Sergi & Associates, P.C. and has done so ever since.

“I have built a reputation for being one of sound judgment, fair temperament, with a passion for equality under the law,” Fusco said. “I have more than a decade of legal experience within Hays County and almost seven years experience as a municipal judge in a neighboring county.”

Incumbent Tacie Zelhart is running unopposed in March 3’s Republican primary.
