San Marcos CISD board to discuss central administration building

Sunday, October 17, 2021

Ongoing discussions regarding a new central administration building for San Marcos Consolidated ISD will continue during Monday’s regular board of trustees meeting.

The board recently approved a contract with Stantec Architecture Inc. for architectural services for a central office building during its Sept. 20 meeting. SMCISD administrators relocated in late 2017 to a temporary central office location at 631 Mill St. after mold was found in the previous office.

The approved contract consists of a feasibility study, which includes facility assessment and longrange facility plans, recommendations and cost estimates and test fits for an administration building. The contract would also include an administration building project if it receives board approval.

The board will receive a presentation regarding the feasibility study conducted during Monday’s meeting.

Later, the trustees will discuss and take possible action to renovate the Austin Community College Goodnight Center as a central office facility. It would cost SMCISD $7,018,559 to renovate the ACC Goodnight Center as a district central office facility.

In other business, the board will hear a COVID-19 update, where data will show that 82% of SMCISD employees are vaccinated against the virus. The highest vaccination rate was recorded at Mendez Elementary School at 97%, while the lowest rate was found at Bonham Pre-Kindergarten at 71%.

Additionally, COVID-19 asymptomatic testing recently held at schools across the district recorded only one positive case out of 175 individuals who tested. According to the trustee’s agenda packet, of the 175 tested 50% were staff and 50% were students.

The trustees will also consider and take possible action to accept the San Marcos High School STEAM Building Bond Project.

The board will also discuss and take possible action to approve supplemental bond projects.

A discussion will take place recharging the Citizens Advisory Committee to discuss redistricting the board into seven single member districts. The board could take action following the discussion.

In closed session, the board will hold a discussion regarding campus safety and security.

The board will reconvene in open session to hold an operating procedures workshop.

Monday’s meeting takes place at San Marcos High School — 2601 Rattler Road — inside the Criminal Justice Classroom, beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting can also be viewed online at https://www.smcisd.net/Page/320.
