Tax allocations down for month

Annual total is up overall for 2023

With the high price of groceries and utilities and the holiday season upcoming, it is no surprise that people are counting pennies and keeping them close. The tax allocations for last month have decreased by almost 3% from the previous year.

The decrease in sales from this time period last year has yet to make a dent in the overall sales for the year, which are substantial. The city has received $1,865,760 more for 2023 year to date, as compared to 2022.

The sales tax rate allocation given by the Office of the State Comptroller for the city of San Marcos is 1.5%.

The sales tax allocation for October, representing sales made in August in San Marcos, has gone down 2.82% compared to the same month last year.

The amount allocated to the city for sales made in August is $3,247,052 down from $3,341,577 for the same period in the previous year.

The amount of allocations for the entire year to date is up 5.37% from last year.

For the entire year of 2023, the city received a total of $36,597,238 in allocations, and year to date for 2022 was $34,731,478.

The total tax allocations for all of 2022 was $38,016,330.75.

The tax rate allocation for unincorporated Hays County is 0.5%. The allocation for October, representing sales made in August for the county, is $2,687,547, which is up 1.13% from last year in the same period when it received $2,657,300. The payment to the county year to date is $29,562,510, which is up 4.93% from last year.

In 2022, Hays County received $28,173,294 for the year by this time.

Four cities in Hays County are down from last year for this tax allocation period and one of the cities is down year to date, as compared to 2022. Those down for this tax allocation period are San Marcos, Dripping Springs, Mountain City and Uhland and for the year to date is Uhland.

Other cities in the county have seen increases from last year in tax allocations compensation for this time period and for the year to date.

Here’s how the rest of the county’s municipalities fared: Buda: Monthly allocation is $1,080,300, up 10.53%. Year to date total is $11,864,300, up 8.52%.

Dripping Springs: Monthly allocation is $353,563, down 8.99%. Year to date total is $4,168,531, up 6.55%.

Hays City: Monthly allocation is $2,826, up 105.08%. Year to date total is $22,155, up 4.36%.

Kyle: Monthly allocation is $1,599,526, up 6.97%. Year to date total is $15,465,310, up 10.77%.

Mountain City: Monthly allocation is $2,152, down 13.61%. Year to date total is $27,548, up 14.36%.

Niederwald: Monthly allocation is $11,737, up 30.15%. Year to date total is $104,037, up 20.83%.

Uhland: Monthly allocation is $51,954, down 39.28%. Year to date total is $502,642, down 41.67%.

Wimberley: Monthly allocation is $143,274, up 8.68%. Year to date total is $1,431,440, up 7.89%.

Woodcreek: Monthly allocation is $7,891, up 12.49%. Year to date total is $93,847, up 12.55%.

Buda, Kyle, Uhland and San Marcos have a sales tax rate of 1.5%. The sales tax rate in Dripping Springs is 1.25% and it is 1% in Hays City, Mountain City, Niederwald, Wimberley and Woodcreek.
